After winning this prestigious award last year, we rose to the challenge, once again, and have been awarded proud winners of the National Ruxley Rose Plant Area Competition in our category, for the second year running. To win such an award, takes commitment to delivering outstanding standards, professional horticultural advice and an uncompromising approach to customer service.

Congratulations to Denis and his Plant Area Team as well as all the other staff who assisted in maintaining a consistent high standard for our customers.

Fireworks Extravaganza 2009

Once again, this event was a huge success, drawing nearly 500 spectators. After many rainy hours during the day, the skies cleared for the evening which enabled Professor Pyro (Deryck) to de-stress and really excell, setting off the most spectacular well-planned fireworks to various pieces of music. Most of the fireworks used in his fantastic display are available for sale, here at Sunshine, throughout the year and we will always be happy to assist & advise you with your firework purchases, however large or small, for whatever the occasion.

Before the grand Firework Display, we were entertained, on stage, by the talented Angels of K.A.O.S., who provided us with lots of familiar songs. They managed to raise over £250 for the K.A.O.S. charity, which is the country's only integrated signing choir for deaf and hearing children based here in North London.

As usual, there was a genuinely close and friendly atmosphere (as you would expect at Sunshine) with lots of barbequed food; a very tasty vegetarian paella alternative and gallons of warm mulled wine "on-tap" to really keep everyone in good spirits. After browsing around our fantastic Christmas sections, all those present could also enjoy a 10% discount on all their purchases.

We had an overwhelming response to this special event and were full to capacity. The reputation of this annual special evening has spread fast over the past few years and, this year, the tickets were sold out about a fortnight before the event ! Next year, there will be an opportunity to also book on-line so, for those of you who missed out this time, watch the news section of our website for more information closer to the time. Keep that October equinox Saturday free ! You'll have a great time...guaranteed.

Green city

Working in the Garden Centre industry it is hard to ignore the environmental worries that are constantly on the agenda.

So when the GCA (Garden Centre Association) approached us with the Green City Initiative we were delighted to get involved, as this gave us a great opportunity to support and promote a greener London.

The Green City initiative is about promoting more, high quality green space to potentially bring enrichment across business and society.

Evidence from a wide range of economic, scientific and social studies supports the view that plants and green space make the difference.

Green space and plants bring enviromental and social benefits to society. Just one of these benefits is clean air. It is interesting to learn that the trees, shrubs, climbers and flowers that you pass everyday play a huge part in removing deadly particles from the air.

If you are interested in contacting us with a community based project relating to promoting green space, speak to Sarah, our Green City Champion.
