Goodbye to Lisa Stewart

She came, she saw, she conquered...

From Adelaide, Australia, Lisa is one of our longest serving members of our team. She has played a vital and significant part in the success of this garden centre. We and our customers will miss her for her cheerful 'can-do' attitude, unfazed by any situation.

Having conquered a certain man's heart, she leaves us for a new life in South Africa. We wish her and Werner the veruy best in their new life and venture together in Cape Town.

Tot siens en veels geluk!

Summer Fayre time...
Tetherdown_Edwardians

Celebrating 100 years...

Tetherdown Primary School held their annual Summer Fayre and celebrated their 100th birthday by dressing up as Edwardians.

Sunshine Garden Centre supported this by donating furniture to enhance their theme, creating a fantastic experience for all attending. From soaring high in swing boats, eating cucumber sandwiches and singing in the Music hall, the Fayre was a great success and managed to raise good money for the school.

Seen us at Chelsea?

This year, Sunshine Garden Centre was invited by Barlow Tyrie to share their stand at the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show .

Barlow Tyrie began as a partnership back in 1920s in London . It did not take too much time for them to make a reputation for themselves in fine outdoor furniture. Over the decades the company has expanded and now has subsidiaries in various countries all over the world. However the company still remains a family owned business even today with the 3rd generation of sons running it.

Although the furniture on show this year was of a contemporary design, we merged it with a strong Mediterranean planting theme to show the diversity of the furniture in a more informal setting. Conifers, Lavenders, Rosemary, Limes and Lemons all formed part of the display.

After winning this prestigious award last year, we rose to the challenge, once again, and have been awarded proud winners of the National Ruxley Rose Plant Area Competition in our category, for the second year running. To win such an award, takes commitment to delivering outstanding standards, professional horticultural advice and an uncompromising approach to customer service.

Congratulations to Denis and his Plant Area Team as well as all the other staff who assisted in maintaining a consistent high standard for our customers.

Green city

Working in the Garden Centre industry it is hard to ignore the environmental worries that are constantly on the agenda.

So when the GCA (Garden Centre Association) approached us with the Green City Initiative we were delighted to get involved, as this gave us a great opportunity to support and promote a greener London.

The Green City initiative is about promoting more, high quality green space to potentially bring enrichment across business and society.

Evidence from a wide range of economic, scientific and social studies supports the view that plants and green space make the difference.

Green space and plants bring enviromental and social benefits to society. Just one of these benefits is clean air. It is interesting to learn that the trees, shrubs, climbers and flowers that you pass everyday play a huge part in removing deadly particles from the air.

If you are interested in contacting us with a community based project relating to promoting green space, speak to Sarah, our Green City Champion.
